On October 12, 2017 friends of Merrick huddled up for the East Side at the Super Bowl themed 4th Annual Merrick Mix & Mingle. More than 150 guests gathered at Hotel Metro Saint Paul to show their support for Merrick and the East Side community and enjoy tasty tailgate snacks (including delicious desserts provided by Cookie Cart and Swede Hollow Café), games and raffles, silent and live auctions, and an inspirational program highlighting Merrick’s work and impact. Dan Stoltz, President/CEO of SPIRE Credit Union, spoke about the importance of being both a “go-getter and a go-giver”, and Laarni Shank, a graduate of Merrick’s Construction Training Program, offered powerful remarks about her journey to becoming a professional carpenter.

It is through you that Merrick is able to reach out to a lot of people and provide them with the skills they need. People like me who are searching for a way out of living from paycheck to paycheck. I would like to let you know that each one of you have impacted my life in a way that I could never explain fully… Through Merrick, you have not only helped me secure an attainable promising future for my children, but also break free from a vicious cycle of anger, anxiety, and depression.”

– Laarni Shank
