Merrick’s 2026 Backpack Distribution gathered families, partners, and volunteers for a fabulous evening of celebration and support on Saint Paul’s East Side.

With your support, we distributed 841 backpacks to students and shared over 3,730 pounds of fresh produce with families. Our 12 community partners, an eager team of volunteers and Merrick staff helped create a welcoming, organized, and joyful experience — from greeting families and handing out supplies to leading fun activities and connecting parents with community resources.

Merrick Community Services extends heartfelt thanks to every volunteer and partner who made it such a meaningful day for youth and families on the East Side of Saint Paul. Your time and energy helped students start the school year with confidence.

Just look at those smiles!

This year, Merrick had the joy of hosting UpLift right at home, giving attendees the chance to Step into the Story of Merrick in the very place where our work happens.

A Hollywood-themed evening, UpLift celebrated Merrick’s mission, our participants’ stories, and the many funders that support our work. From the 50/50 Raffle to the Silent Auction and Dessert Dash, every moment was filled with energy and connection.

Throughout the night, Merrick staff shared powerful stories of program participants — moments that remind us why this work matters. As one attendee shared, “Excellent stories from the staff about how Merrick can make a difference.” Another added, “Their love of Merrick really comes through.”

Guests also loved experiencing Merrick’s space firsthand. Staff member Pa Dao Lor’s beautifully curated history display drew praise throughout the night. “Absolutely beautiful… it really connected the pieces,” one attendee shared. “I loved seeing where the magic happens!” said another.

UpLift 2026 was more than an event — it was a celebration of community, generosity, and the stories that inspire our mission every day. Thank you to every attendee, volunteer, donor, and staff member who helped make the night meaningful. Your support strengthens Merrick and UpLifts the families we serve.
