Merrick in a Time of Change:
Adapting and Evolving

Today, Merrick Community Services stands as one of the oldest nonprofit agencies in Ramsey County, with a history of assisting individuals and families transition from poverty and become self-sufficient and stable.  The core programs of MCS are Nutritional and Independence Services (comprised of the Food Shelves and MOW/Senior Services) and Employment, Family and Youth Services.

MCS also thanks our 2021 sponsors for their generous support of our work in 2021

Merrick Community Services remains committed to breaking the cycle of multi-generational and concentrated poverty in our community.  We will continue to work with others in challenging and advocating for systems change.  But, to be successful, we all need to be pulling in the same direction – to bend toward justice.

We’re growing stronger, together, every day and every month.

We are so grateful for your support of Merrick Community Services this past year. What a year it has been:
Over 600,000 lbs of food has come through our food shelf.

At Merrick Community Services, we grieve George Floyd’s death and recognize the magnitude and significance this moment represents for our Staff, Volunteers, and Supporters, and for those we are privileged to serve, who too often are also victims of the oppression of racism, bigotry, and unequal treatment, as well

Merrick Community Services Statement on the Derek Chauvin Guilty Verdict

The arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends towards justice
—   Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King 1964

The verdict represents an important step in the long overdue need to address the institutional and systemic racism that contributed to George Floyd’s murder and that (sadly) African Americans continue to experience daily, we recognize that this is just the beginning of the tremendous work ahead for all of us.  Afterall, the moral arc of the universe doesn’t bend toward justice by itself.  Each of us has an obligation to do our part: to doing the bending.  Only then will real justice occur for all in our society.  We are not there yet……not by a long shot, in fact.

So, this is not a time to celebrate, as much as it is a Call To Action.
Each of us has an opportunity and (moral) obligation, in fact, to do our part to dismantle and challenge and change systems that were too often designed to maintain the status quo and perpetuate the privilege and dominance of one culture at the expense of others: Black, Indigenous, and People of Color.
